Check Point launches Canada data residency for SASE

Check Point has launched Canada data residency for its SASE service, adding Canada to its list of supported SASE data residency regions.

Canadian organisations using the service can now process and store key network and security telemetry within Canada, including traffic inspection, session data, logs, metadata and configuration. The change is intended to give customers greater control over where sensitive security data is handled.

The rollout extends Check Point's regional data residency model in Canada following the earlier introduction of a local data region for CloudGuard WAF. Canada now joins the United States, the European Union, India and Australia as a supported region for the company's SASE data residency offering.

For organisations in sectors such as finance, healthcare, government and critical infrastructure, data location has become more important as they respond to privacy and compliance requirements. Keeping security telemetry in-country can help address obligations under PIPEDA and provincial privacy rules.

Customers using the Canadian residency option will still have access to the full SASE platform, including Private Access for zero trust network access, Internet Access for secure web gateway functions, and SaaS Security for cloud application controls.

The service also retains centralised policy management while placing the processing and storage of relevant data in Canada. That combination is likely to matter for security, IT and compliance teams that need to show where operational and audit-related data is stored.

Local handling

SASE, or secure access service edge, combines networking and security functions for users connecting to applications and data across offices, homes and cloud environments. As adoption grows, data residency has become a more prominent issue for organisations that do not want operational security data to cross borders.

In practice, the Canadian region covers records created when internet traffic is inspected, along with user session details, security event logs, metadata and tenant configuration data. These data sets can be important during internal reviews, audits and regulatory inquiries, particularly in tightly regulated industries.

The Canadian option is generally available immediately for new customers. Existing customers that want Canadian data residency will need to discuss onboarding arrangements with Check Point.

The expansion also reflects a broader industry trend as cyber security suppliers add local hosting and processing options in response to customer demands around sovereignty and privacy. In Canada, those demands have intensified as public and private sector organisations reassess where security data is stored and how it is accessed.

Check Point said support teams operate globally, while customer information is handled only as required to deliver the service. That distinction may matter for buyers that want local data processing without giving up access to a globally run support model.

Check Point says it protects more than 100,000 organisations worldwide and has been expanding its product set across network security, cloud security, workspace security and AI-related security tools. The addition of a Canadian SASE data residency region signals how regional compliance demands are shaping service delivery.
