Magaya enhances performance with Tessell's PostgreSQL
Magaya Corporation has enhanced its database infrastructure utilising Tessell's managed PostgreSQL solution, achieving significant improvements in database performance and operational efficiency.
Following its acquisition by a private equity firm in 2023, Magaya Corporation was under pressure to migrate its customers from its legacy Classic system to the Blue Ivory platform. However, issues arose when Blue Ivory's database performance did not meet expectations. To address this, Magaya teamed up with Tessell to optimise the PostgreSQL environment and facilitate seamless cloud scalability via AWS.
Poor optimisation for high-volume queries led to severe bottlenecks in Blue Ivory's initial PostgreSQL setup. Additionally, a custom-built Reservation Service that mimicked the legacy system's pessimistic-locking behaviour resulted in excessive processing times, negatively impacting transaction speeds. Relying on a single PostgreSQL expert also posed a significant operational risk, and customers experienced slower response times during the transition, threatening adoption rates.
Tessell's managed PostgreSQL platform allowed Magaya to transform Blue Ivory into a high-performance solution by improving query execution speeds tenfold. Magaya's logistics operations were enhanced to handle tens of thousands of rows per second. Tessell's architecture involved multiple Availability Zones, which reduced downtime risks and ensured ongoing operations. The AWS migration process was seamless, as Tessell optimised partitioning strategies, memory buffers, and disk I/O, boosting database efficiency. Operational risks were mitigated through Tessell's 24/7 expert support, eliminating dependency on a single in-house DBA for database management.
The optimisations have equipped Magaya's Blue Ivory platform for sustainable growth. Key performance bottlenecks have been removed, facilitating expedited customer onboarding and smoother migrations. Now able to support both multi-tenant and single-tenant deployments, Magaya can scale operations to serve businesses of varying sizes. The shift to a cloud-native, cost-optimised solution has enabled Magaya to meet private equity investors' ROI expectations, enhancing its growth and profitability outlook.
"The PostgreSQL cluster performance we're seeing with Tessell is beyond belief. It has enabled Magaya to move forward with our application modernization projects in a way that was previously not financially possible," stated Niten Jaiswal, Vice President of Engineering at Magaya.
This partnership with Tessell has allowed Magaya not only to modernise its database infrastructure but also to solidify its status in the logistics and supply chain technology sector. Having developed a high-performance and scalable platform, Magaya is well-prepared to support an expanding customer base and continue its development endeavours.
