Vaisala has launched Indigo Supervisor for environmental monitoring in data centres, aimed at facilities that need to manage larger sensor networks as computing infrastructure expands.

The system is designed to shift operators from managing individual sensors to managing measurement networks as a single system. It can manage up to 100 measurement points and connect to a building management system through a single standardised connection.

Demand for denser computing infrastructure, particularly for AI workloads, is increasing pressure on supporting systems inside data centres. This includes environmental monitoring across data halls, technical spaces, support areas and other critical locations, while operators also face tighter installation, commissioning and maintenance schedules.

To address growing networks, Vaisala is pitching a more centralised approach to deployment and upkeep. Indigo Supervisor includes a local touchscreen interface and supports web-based commissioning tools, with functions for dashboards, measurement visibility, alert management and calibration information.

The host unit supports up to two independent probe chains, with as many as 50 probes on each chain. It is compatible with Vaisala XMP10, HMP110, HMP113 and TMP115 probes, and integrates with building management systems through Modbus TCP.

Operators can also export system configurations as CSV files for commissioning and deployment across multiple sites. The setup is intended to help standardise monitoring across facilities without adding complexity as estate footprints increase.

AI pressure

Anu Kätkä, Product Line Manager for HVAC and Critical Buildings at Vaisala, linked the launch to broader changes in data centre construction and operations.

"AI is accelerating data centre growth at a pace that is changing how supporting infrastructure is deployed, managed and scaled. When a facility contains dozens or hundreds of measurement points, environmental monitoring can no longer be managed one sensor at a time. Operators need a system-level approach that can be commissioned efficiently, maintained without disrupting operations, and scaled consistently as capacity expands," Kätkä said.

The product forms part of Vaisala's broader offer for data centres, where operators are dealing with faster buildouts and more measurement points across expanding facilities. The same approach is also being positioned for other sites that require monitoring across multiple sensing locations.

Those sectors include cleanrooms, greenhouses, cold storage facilities, laboratories and industrial process environments. In each case, the emphasis is on managing multiple probes and measurement points through a single supervisory layer rather than handling devices one by one.

Vaisala, which employs close to 2,500 people, is listed on the Nasdaq Helsinki exchange. Indigo Supervisor is expected to be available in early 2027.
