Kingston leads global SSD channel with 36% market share

Fri, 21st Nov 2025

Kingston Technology has secured the top position as the world's largest third-party supplier of solid-state drives (SSDs) in channel shipments for 2024, according to data from TrendForce. Kingston achieved a 36 percent share of all channel SSD units shipped globally during the year, significantly ahead of its closest competitor, which held 13 percent of the market.

Market dynamics

The global SSD channel market experienced challenges in 2024. TrendForce reported a 14 percent year-on-year decline in channel SSD shipments, attributed to continued weak consumer demand and saturation in notebook PC SSD adoption, which reached 100 percent attach rates. Despite these market headwinds, Kingston increased its market share over the previous year.

The TrendForce analysis points to new drivers for future SSD demand. The continued integration of artificial intelligence in personal computers and edge devices is expected to boost requirements for high-capacity, high-performance SSDs. Market participants with advanced technical capabilities, strategic distribution, and strong brand positioning are likely to fare best as demand evolves.

Product developments

Kingston expanded its SSD portfolio in 2024, with new offerings across multiple segments. For client computing, it launched the NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, a compact device delivering high-capacity performance designed to strengthen its presence in the consumer market.

Within data centre applications, Kingston introduced the DC2000B SSD, targeted at rack-mount server environments. This high-performance PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD is developed as an internal boot drive for high-volume server deployments, addressing needs of enterprise customers seeking robust and efficient storage solutions.

Kingston also enhanced its range of external SSDs, unveiling the red coloured XS1000 model. This device was recognised with the 2024 Red Dot Award for Product Design, reflecting attention to both functionality and aesthetic aspects.

For industrial markets, Kingston refreshed its line-up with next-generation locked-BOM SSDs aimed at system builders and engineers. These industrial drives provide storage for demanding settings such as kiosks, digital signage, robotics, point-of-sale, and video surveillance, reinforcing the company's presence in commercial and embedded applications.

Channel presence

Kingston's significant share of the global SSD channel is attributed to its broad distribution footprint and extensive relationships with channel partners. The company's focus on portfolio breadth and customer support were also cited as factors in its continued dominance of the market.

"We are proud to be recognized as the top SSD supplier once again. Our commitment to customers and channel partners has fueled the growth of our SSD business. This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, and we are grateful to celebrate this success together," said Kingston.
